Dr. Jian Zhu is currently a research-oriented associate Professor based in the K. P. Tin Institute of Educational Science at Zhejiang Normal University. He has served as the Vice Dean of the Joint Education Insitute of Zhejiang Normal Univeristy and University of Kansas, the USA since November 2023. He earned his Ph.D. degree in Education from the University of Edinburgh, the UK in late 2011, and was a visiting scholar in the University of Melbourne, Australia between August 2018 and August 2019.
His main research interests include teacher education, gender issues in higher education and comparative higher education with particular interest to the UK. His most recent books include Choices and Constraints: Gender Differences in the Employment Expectations of Final Year Undergraduates in a University in Central China, published by Peter Lang (Oxford) and The Quality Assurance System of Initial Teacher Education in the UK, published by the Educational Science Publishing House (Beijing). He has published over 50 peer-reviewed journal articles, 5 book chapters, and more than 10 international conference papers. He has served as external reviewers of Chinese and international journals with high quality.
He has been a principal investigator for two research projects sponsored by the Ministry of Education, China. And he teaches a number of courses for undergraduates and postgraduates, such as Research Methods in Education (individually), Workshop of Research Methods in Education(in English, individually), Research Methodology in Education (in English, collaboratively), Theory and Method in Comparative Education (collaboratively) and Topics Studies in Higher Education (collaboratively). Meanwhile, he has been a part-time course interpreter for the Master’s of Education in Educational Leadership Programme supported by the University and Edith Cowan University, Australia between 2012 and 2017.
