Zijing Chen, Ph.D.

Biography
Dr. Zijing Chen is currently an assistant professor in College of Life Sciences, Zhejiang Normal University. He received his B.S. degree in biological sciences from Peking University in 2003, and his Ph.D. in neuroscience from Institute of Neuroscience, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2010. He subsequently went abroad to do postdoc with Dr. Craig Montell, first at Johns Hopkins University and then University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB). He was promoted to associate specialist at UCSB in 2015, and joined Zhejiang Normal University as an assistant professor in January of 2024.
Research
Dr. Zijing Chen and his team are interested in understanding how animals process sensory information. We are exploring the underlying molecular and cellular machineries for sensory processing, as well as the mechanisms for sensory stimuli to modulate animal behaviors. In particular, we aim at uncovering novel functions and regulation of ion channels and G protein-coupled receptors (GPCR), two important classes of proteins in sensory signaling and being promising drug targets. To achieve our aims, we use both fruit fly and mouse as our model animals and combine a variety of research techniques, such as molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, genetics, and electrophysiology.
