The niche field of tiling has seen frequent breakthroughs in recent years, with reports in American popular science magazines including: convex pentagonal monotiles, sphere packing, rational tetrahedra, the periodic tiling conjecture, and the "Einstein" or aperiodic monotile. WANG Erxiao is currently leading a team of over a dozen undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students in exploring various 2D tilings , as well as 3D tilings and integer tilings. The team focuses on the connections between tiling and symmetry, topology, algebraic geometry, number theory, harmonic analysis, and its intersections with fields such as materials science and artificial intelligence. The long-term goal is to establish a tessellation expert system to serve interdisciplinary scientific and technological fields.
